Biography
Originally based in Atlanta, Buffalo Alice is Alex Aaron and a rotating cast of musician friends, regularly recording and performing with John Bennett (Crossing The Gore), Jason Cropper (formerly of Weezer), Chris Morrissey (Ben Kweller) and Jake Hansen (Halloween, Alaska).
In 2006 Buffalo Alice self-released their debut, the "genre-jumping and insidiously catchy indie rock [cd]" The Fifth Sparrow, and broke out of the regional circuit with shows from Atlanta to North Dakota to Oregon. Later that year, Aaron began an impromptu musical partnership via MySpace with former Weezer guitarist and L.A. - based producer, Jason Cropper. Cropper co-wrote songs for and produced Mitchell, "an intriguing and bold [2007] sophomore effort."
In support of Mitchell, Buffalo Alice played shows in L.A. with Cropper and received airplay nationwide, including their hometown's 99x and Project 96.1.
Buffalo Alice's sense of originality spills over into their live performance. The group has played around the country with groups such as Boy Hits Car, The Edison Project, Harry and the Potters, and Corey Crowder.
The group's first single "The Guelph Song" off their debut album and the single "The Fifth Sparrow" from their sophomore album are still played on college, public, satellite and terrestrial stations around the country and were featured on the television shows "The Unsigned" and "Channel Zero".
In 2007 Aaron and Cropper co-wrote and produced Buffalo Alice's third album The Alexander Rosenhoff Testament - A Work Of Fiction. The album was released in the summer of 2008.
Later that year Aaron teamed up with Ben Kweller bassist Chris Morrissey to record the band's fourth full length album The Gardener, an album filled with hints of rock, bluegrass, country, and folk. The string accompaniment by Chris Morrissey proved to be the sweetest harmonies for Aaron's profound vocals.
Then in 2009, Aaron again teamed up with Morrissey to simultaneously record two albums, 13 Girls and the self-titled Buffalo Alice, with the help of producer Aaron Sturz. 13 Girls features stories of the different women Alex Aaron has loved. The album is full of pop and acoustic rock, and even covers The Country Gentleman's 1965 hit "Bringing Mary Home". The album's first single "Brittany (My Dandelion)" was posted online and within fifteen minutes was requested by three radio stations for immediate rotation.
The latter, Buffalo Alice, delves into weightier matters with a scathing condemnation of American culture, social inequality, and calling for a revolution fueled by education to overthrow organized religion. The songs reflect Aaron's vast knowledge of Christianity, the bible, and his passion for science, all while maintaining what has become Buffalo Alice's signature style of campfire sing-a-long folk/pop music.
